Our mission
Hexateron Labs is an early-stage AI research and development company working to create an AI mechanical engineer.
Every physical invention begins with an idea. Turning that idea into a working system, however, requires much more than a description. It means designing parts that fit together, understanding how they move, and checking that they can withstand the forces of the real world.
Today’s AI models can explain engineering principles and propose concepts. But a convincing answer is not necessarily a working design. Engineering requires ideas to be tested against reality.
We believe AI should be able to do more than generate suggestions. It should help turn requirements into mechanical assemblies, evaluate the trade-offs, learn from simulation and testing, and iterate toward better solutions.
Our goal is an engineering partner that can work autonomously when appropriate and collaborate closely with a human designer when judgment matters.
We’re starting with mechanical systems.
Why mechanical engineering?
Our ability to build the future is limited by how quickly we can turn ideas into reliable physical designs.
AI is changing how software is created. Developers can describe a problem, generate code, run tests, and improve the result. Mechanical engineering has an additional challenge: the design must work in three dimensions, under real forces, within real constraints.
We chose this problem because mechanical systems can be evaluated. Geometry can be checked, mechanisms can be simulated, and engineering assumptions can be challenged by measurable results. This feedback makes physical design a compelling frontier for AI.
From everyday mechanisms to robotics and advanced machines, making engineering more accessible could allow many more people to explore ideas that would otherwise remain sketches.
What we're building
We envision a system that starts with a simple description of what a machine needs to do and develops that description into a design people can inspect, test, and refine.
The long-term aim is to bring design reasoning, three-dimensional assemblies, component selection, simulation, and optimization into a connected workflow—rather than making people move between disconnected tools.
We want the experience to be as approachable as speaking to an AI assistant, while supporting engineering work that can be taken into established CAD and analysis environments. A web-first interface could open this process to students, independent inventors, hobbyists, and professional engineers alike.
This is a research and development effort. These are the capabilities we are working toward, not claims about an already released product.
Who we are
Hexateron Labs is an early-stage technology company founded by software engineer Dylan Henderson in Toledo, Ohio.
Our starting point is a conviction that the tools used to create software—reasoning, automation, iteration, and verification—can help make physical engineering more accessible. We are at the beginning of that work and aim to build across the disciplines of artificial intelligence and mechanical engineering.
We’re interested in collaborating with engineers, researchers, and builders who share that ambition.
Our research direction
Creating a useful AI mechanical engineer means connecting ideas to evidence. Language models are one part of that work, but engineering also requires geometry, constraints, numerical tools, and physical intuition.
We are exploring how a system can move from a high-level requirement to a design proposal, identify what is uncertain, select tools that can help answer those questions, and improve the design from the feedback.
Our north star is not simply faster drafting. It is to help more people design things that can actually work.
